Returning the car with CARIFY
CARIFY car subscriptions are based on the motto "Cars Made Easy". We offer you a wonderfully uncomplicated experience with your subscription vehicle from start to finish. Canceling your subscription and returning your car are just as easy as taking delivery of the vehicle. In this guide, we explain how it works.
How does the return process work at the end of the car subscription?
Are you unsure how to return your car subscription and wondering what costs you will incur? We at CARIFY will be happy to help you and guide you through the process step by step.
Before you return the car, you need to cancel your subscription. For all questions relating to your car subscription, log in to your CARIFY account, including when canceling your subscription. From your CARIFY account, go to "My subscriptions" and from there to the sub-item "Cancel my subscription".
What is the start date of the car subscription? Of course, your subscription only starts on the day you receive the car.
When can you cancel? You can cancel at the latest 14 days before the end of the agreed subscription term with a cancellation date on the last day of your car subscription (example: if the return date is 15 March, the cancellation must be made on 1 March at the latest).
What happens if you miss the notice period? Then your subscription will be extended by a further month until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time after the minimum term has expired. Again, a notice period of at least 14 days applies.
Can you continue to drive any subscription car for an unlimited period if you wish? If it is the Flex package, then yes. However, if you have booked a fixed package, the garage providing the car can reclaim the vehicle at the end of the contract term. You will be informed of this 30 days in advance so that you have enough time to cancel the contract.
Can you cancel before the end of the minimum contract term? We have made tough calculations and negotiated the best offer for you with our contractual partner. That's why you can't cancel your contract in advance. If this is unavoidable, please contact our customer service team. They will inform you about the costs you will incur.
Do you have to return the car yourself? We make it as convenient as possible for you: you can return the subscription car to the authorized dealer yourself or book a convenient collection by CARIFY, no matter where your car is located in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein. This will only cost you CHF 180 plus fuel and a flat rate per kilometer driven.
Preparing your car for return
We always provide you with spotlessly clean and well-maintained vehicles, and we want to return them to our contract partners in a similarly good condition. We have summarized for you what you should do before returning the vehicle to avoid costs.
Basic steps for car preparation
Remove personal items: Get everything that belongs to you out of the car.
Clean the interior: Remove any stains/dust from the dashboard and upholstery with mild soapy water and vacuum the interior (including the trunk or cargo area) with a vacuum cleaner.
Exterior cleaning: Give the vehicle a thorough cleaning in the car wash.
Fill up the tank: You received your car with a full tank or charged battery, and that's how you should return it. If you have booked our pick-up service, our driver will fill up the tank at your expense before returning the car.
How do you know when you've done enough? By this rule of thumb: return the car as exactly as you received it.
Return date, location and protocol
If you have canceled your subscription on time, it's time to return your vehicle. The return takes place on the last day of your contract term. You can either return the car to the CARIFY partner providing it yourself or use our convenient collection service. As at the start of your subscription, a handover report will be drawn up at the time of collection/drop-off, listing all old and new damage. Our team will then decide whether these need to be repaired. Don't worry: we don't charge for anything that falls under normal use. The insurance will cover any damage that needs to be repaired, so the most you'll have to pay is the excess.
Do I have to pay for additional kilometers when I return the car?
You chose one of our mileage packages (750, 1000, 1750, 2500 or 3000 km per month) when you made your booking. If you have a term of more than one month, you can compensate for excess kilometers driven in one month with less mileage in another - as long as you do not exceed your booked package by more than 2,000 km. If this is the case, we may issue you with an interim invoice. If you have exceeded your free allowance at the end of the term, we will charge you the contractual price per kilometer. If, on the other hand, you have not used up your full quota, we will unfortunately not be able to reimburse you for these kilometers.
And what if you realize that you can't manage with your mileage package? Of course, you can adjust your free kilometers for the coming months, but only increase them during your minimum contract term. To do this, contact our customer service at [email protected]. You can also reduce your mileage package at the end of the contract term. However, adjustments are only possible as long as you have not yet canceled your subscription. In addition, they do not affect the current or previous months. Your adjustment may change the price that we charge you per additional kilometer at the end of the contract.
How is the condition of the car assessed when I return it?
When you received your car from us, we drew up a handover report with you. We recorded any damage to the vehicle and documented it with photos if necessary. We do the same again when you return the car. If you have opted for our collection service, this will take place at your home before you hand the car over to our employee. If you bring the vehicle back yourself, the 30-minute check will take place when you hand it over to the dealer.
Is there a fee if the car is damaged when I return it?
If new damage has occurred to the vehicle during your use, this is not a problem. If there are minor scratches, this is part of the normal use of the car. You do not have to pay for this. In the case of major damage such as dents, we will commission a repair. This is covered by your comprehensive insurance. If you have not booked our premium insurance package, you may have to pay the excess.
Options after the end of the subscription period
