Mercedes Leasing in Switzerland

Like hardly any other vehicle, the car with the star stands for dignified luxury, quality and comfort, but also dynamism, seriousness and class. It is no coincidence that most business vehicles are Mercedes. The excellent quality of Mercedes sedans and SUVs is reflected in the purchase price. That's why Mercedes leasing is a popular alternative to buying a new car. You pay a leasing installment for the prestigious car instead of a credit installment and return the vehicle at the end of the leasing period. Here we'll tell you exactly how this works and what disadvantages you must consider.

Mercedes Leasing: How does it work in Switzerland?

New cars lose value in the first few years after registration. For example, if you buy a new Mercedes, it will be worth half as much after about three years. Your car loan rates, however, remain the same. With leasing, on the other hand, you return your Mercedes after a few years and can easily switch to a newer model. Alternatively, you can extend the lease or decide to buy the car.

Paying the monthly leasing rate - nothing more than a rental fee - does not make you the owner of the car. But you do get exclusive use of the vehicle during the leasing period.

This is how Mercedes leasing in Switzerland works:

  • You must have your residence in Switzerland.

  • You choose a Mercedes model. New or used, it's up to you.

  • Have a current debt collection register excerpt ready to prove your creditworthiness. You will also need proof that you can pay the monthly installments.

  • Consider if you would like to use the vehicle longer than this period. This is possible but must be specified in the contract. With a Vario lease, you can buy your Mercedes for the remaining fixed amount.

  • Estimate how many kilometers you expect to drive per year. The mileage has a significant influence on the amount of the leasing rate. Therefore, it is better to calculate generously because you will have to pay extra for too many kilometers driven.

  • You conclude a leasing contract with the vehicle owner, a dealer or a car dealership. The contract period is usually 36 to 48 months. The longer the term, the lower the monthly payment: the dealer calculates it based on the car's new price, mileage, and term.

  • The first installment is sometimes higher when leasing in Switzerland, as some dealers require a down payment as additional security. The higher the down payment, the lower the monthly charge.

Note: Companies, freelancers and self-employed persons can deduct the lease payments for business vehicles from their taxes, but private individuals cannot.

How much does it cost to lease a Mercedes?

We have selected a few examples of popular Mercedes models. If you lease a vehicle directly from Mercedes in Switzerland, you can expect the following conditions:

Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake 35 AMG 4Matic:

  • Sales price: 74,000 CHF

  • First installment: 14,800 CHF

  • Annual percentage rate of charge: 3.35 %.

The examples show that mileage and contract duration significantly impact the leasing rate. The APR also has a significant impact on the cost of your Mercedes.

Disadvantages of Mercedes leasing

Even though leasing may initially seem like a great option to get into the automotive luxury class, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:

  • Various dealers require an initial payment when leasing high-priced Mercedes vehicles. Although this positively affects the leasing rate, it must first be paid.

  • You will have to pay other costs when leasing:

    • Delivery fee,

    • registration with the traffic office,

    • Taxes,

    • car insurance (you are obliged to take out comprehensive insurance),

    • service/maintenance,

    • repairs.

  • There is usually a garage obligation. You must have your car serviced and repaired in specified garages.

  • If you want to buy your Mercedes after leasing, you must do it at a fixed price. This does not reflect the current market value nor consider the payments you have already made.

  • When returning the Mercedes at the end of the contract, problems may arise if the Mercedes has defects and damage. Then you will have to make additional payments.

  • Early termination of the contract is possible but expensive.

According to the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS), you have to reckon with effective monthly costs of three times the monthly leasing rate when leasing.

What is the difference between leasing and a car subscription?

While you enter into a long-term commitment with leasing, the terms of a car subscription are much more flexible and sometimes start at just one month. With CARIFY, the largest car subscription provider in Switzerland, you don't have to make an initial payment.

With the subscription, you have a complete overview of the costs because all expenses for taxes, insurance, maintenance, etc., are already included in the monthly rate. With us, you can also choose whether to cancel your subscription free of charge after the minimum contract period, extend it, or even buy your Mercedes at the end.

Why a Mercedes car subscription is better:

With high initial costs, Mercedes is a brand not everyone can afford. Even with leasing, providers often require a high initial payment as collateral. Here you can see the differences at a glance:
